Description
Sculpture depicting the Madonna of Tindari.
In Resin.
The statue is made by Neapolitan master craftsmen, completely of Italian production.
The origins of the cult of the Madonna del Tindari date back to very ancient times, but there is no well-defined and critically verified historical information.
There is, however, a pious tradition which, since it does not contain, at least from the point of view of orthodoxy, anything improbable or contradictory, we can accept without hesitation, especially since it presents itself against a historical background.
The Madonna is depicted seated, holding the Son of God on her lap, who holds his right hand raised in blessing.
She also wears on her head an oriental-style crown, a kind of turban, made of the same wood, decorated with light golden arabesques.
The Madonna of Tindari, venerated as the Black Virgin in Sicily, is at the center of a fascinating story in the sanctuary dedicated to her.
The statue of the Virgin was saved from a ship fleeing iconoclastic persecution.
The miniature statue is identical to the original, replicated thanks to scans. It is a handcrafted example of the prized Lucca craftsmanship.
