Since ancient times, Spikenard oil has been used to anoint and massage the body. It offers many benefits when applied as a body oil: it has a calming effect and is suitable for massages. Its natural formula and penetrating aroma also make it ideal for aromatherapy and to perfume rooms. In addition, the scent of spikenard, similar to other essential oils, helps improve breathing.
Spikenard oil was used by the Israelites in the time of Moses and was considered a luxury in ancient Egypt, the Near East and Rome, where it was the main ingredient in nardinium perfumes. It is mentioned in the Gospel; Mary of Bethany, sister of Lazarus, used it in an extraordinary quantity, a Roman pound (about 325 grams or 11 ounces today), to anoint Jesus' feet and wipe them with her hair during a meal in Bethany. This suggests the high value the ointment has achieved, especially today when it is produced by distilling the flowers of a unique Spikenard from the mountains of Tibet: a fragrance produced for millennia, typical and unique to the Holy Land.
