Description
Hand-finished icon on wood depicting “Jesus Pantocrator”.
The central figure, seated on a throne, is one of the most common representations of Jesus in Byzantine and Orthodox art. The blessing gesture with his right hand is one of the most famous images in iconography.
The colors of the garments can have symbolic meanings. Blue represents divinity and the sky, while pink symbolizes incarnation and the earth. The union of these colors in the figure of Christ Pantocrator represents his dual nature, divine and human.
The transcription of the text in the book, “Ο ΙΣ ΧΡ ΑΛΗΘΕΙΑ ΕΙΠΕΣ ΚΑΙ ΕΓΩ ΕΙΜΙ ΑΛΗΘΕΙΑ ΚΑΙ ΖΩΗΝ,” can be translated as: “Jesus Christ said: I am truth and life.”
The hook on the back gives the possibility to hang it on the wall.
The certificate on the back of the icon attests to its provenance from Greece.
