The hand-finished icon depicts “Mary who unties knots”, an image venerated by Pope Francis, today a famous image throughout the world.
Mary is dressed in a red tunic and a blue cloak, and is standing on a crescent moon with a serpent under her feet. She is surrounded by angels, and above her is a dove symbolizing the Holy Spirit. Mary holds a long white ribbon with knots, which she is untying with the help of an angel on her left. The background is filled with golden light and cherubic figures, creating a celestial atmosphere.
